Taste: This is a beautiful bottle of wine with mixed floral and fruit aromas. Imagine Bosch pear and Fuji apple served on a graham cracker, drizzled with caramel. Broad and deep on the mid-palate with lush tropical fruit and vanilla notes lingering in a long finish. If you liked Lot 59 RRV Chardonnay, you absolutely will be blown away by this wine—it's from the same producer in the Russian River Valley. As an '07, this wine is just hitting its stride (the Alexander fruit is a bit more round than the RRV fruit, however, and lends itself to being a bit more open at this time) and will continue to improve in the bottle for many years to come.
Cameron Confidential: This wine comes to us from the same folks as our Lot 59 Russian River Chardonnay and was originally offered up as an Alexander Valley Chardonnay. We liked the blend but found out about some other barrel lots they had from Russian River and asked to taste those as well. Winemaker David did his tinkering and, voilà, Lot 87 was born. However, there was a problem: It would have to be appellated Sonoma County, which makes it more difficult to market. We decided the resulting blend was far superior and ran with it, and you'll be happy we did.
For those of you who don't remember Lot 59, this wine is sourced from one of the legendary producers who put Sonoma County on the map, sourcing from Dry Creek, Russian River Valley, Alexander Valley, and Napa Carneros. They are, of course, most famous for their awesome Chardonnays.
