Taste: Deeply brooding, black wine. The nose is tight and almost concave, drawing you down into the glass with aromas of espresso, toast, and hints of cassis. The wine hits your palate in a dense wave of tannin and fruit, with massive mid-palate structure and a super-long finish. This wine is just beginning to reveal itself from underneath massive tannins and has a glorious future. Thick, black wine with unctuous purple fruit. Yummy, even if it's just a baby. Decant several hours before serving.
Cameron Confidential: I have to be honest: I have no idea whose wine this is or where, exactly, in Napa Valley it came from. I got it from a guy who got it from a guy. Given its structure, I suspect it has a healthy dollop of Rutherford fruit but primarily cooler climate stuff from Coombesville or Yountville. Given its small lot size and high levels of extraction, it's also very clearly originating from a very high-end program—we just don't know whose.
