Taste: Tight nose at this juncture (tasted 7/11/07) with aromas of forest floor, spicy cloven and black cherry fruit with hints of coffee and cola. Day two (corked overnight 3/4 bottle): Opens up nicely to show black cherry fruit on the nose with strong coffee/mocha underpinning the fruit. On the palate she’s extremely broad and deep showing that same black cherry flavor upfront and finishing long. Monumentally structured with perfect acid to tannin ratio, this wine is surprisingly approachable right now but shows a silky tannin structure indicating the patient will be rewarded. This hillside grown wine needs lots of time as it only now beginning to show itself.
Cameron Confidential: This wine is a single-vineyard designate hailing from a 1700 foot elevation vineyard on Spring Mountain. The wine is aged 18 months in 100% French oak, 50% new, 50% one year old. The producer of this wine sells their vineyard designate for over $50 a bottle but due to some cash-flow issues sold off about a 1/3 of their 2005 harvest, which was big to begin with. We bottled this in early April but still find the wine fairly tight despite sitting overnight in the bottle. Decanting will only help a little at this stage though this wine should have more to say and reveal a lot more about itself come the holidays. Even then, this is the most age-worthy wine we have ever bottled and is certain to reward those of us with the patience to cellar this baby. Compare at $50-75.
