Taste: Dark red with a purple rim. On the nose, there are aromas of strawberry compote, chocolate, and peppercorns. Notes of dried fruit, smoke, and mineral fill out the layers of ripe fruit and body. With a velvety finish and active acidity, these qualities once again epitomize Old Vine Zinfandel's distinctive "of-the-earth" style.
Cameron Confidential: This wine is yet another fabulous Zin by this illustrious winemaker. The winery is a unique operation that prefers making a variety of "component wines" from various vineyards and varietals and then blending upward of 40 different wines per year from those components. There is no tank larger than 8,000 gallons in the winery to facilitate this sort of small-lot winemaking, and the artisan who assembles the final blends is truly a master, making a range of wines from $250-a-bottle Napa Cabs to $18-a-bottle California red blends.
