Taste: Displaying strong red cherry and violet hues, this wine is promptly aromatic and fruit-intense. Concentrated aromas of blackberry and brambly fruits are present with separated nuances, spaced and lively. This wine has balanced acidity, great minerals, fleshy fruit, and a dignified tannic structure that fills the mouth and offers a long, complex finish.
Cameron Confidential: Lot 129 Campo de Borja Garnacha is the sister wine to Lot 128; both are the same base wine with different oak treatments. Lot 128 saw 9 months in 86% Taransaud French oak and 16% Intona Hungarian oak. Lot 129 was all in Taransaud and Remond French oak. These are some of the finest barrels in the world.
What's odd is that Lot 128 got a Silver medal at one wine competition while Lot 129 got a Platinum/Best of Show at the same show. I have noticed these wines often at different stages swinging through bottle maturation, so I imagine that would explain it—one week Lot 128 is showing great, the next it's Lot 129. Anyhow, both of these wines are absolutely fantastic, and I have to admit to being surprised how few of you are willing to try them. Big, rich, well-structured—they are wines that would appeal to just about anyone who drinks California Cabernet, so throw in a couple with your next order to enjoy now and a few more to cellar. You won't regret it.
