Cameron Hughes is a real person and his job title is négociant. His company buys “extra” grapes and bottles them. The twist is that he only buys from exceptional producers so the “lots” are small. Without overhead (e.g., his own winery, vineyards and distributors), the wine is an incredible value.
Lot 56 is my current favorite. It is a luscious Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon for, get this, $12. If you want to get in on the secret and understand what this wine really is, their web site explains it. (Hint: it is literally the identical twin of the $50 bottle of Cabernet with a new label.)
Even if every lot isn’t necessarily your favorite, they are all worth trying.
